October 20 & 21, 2018
10:00 AM - 6:30 PM
As any production or television series eventually comes to conclusion, this fall marks the Grand Finale year of The Civil War Reenactment at Dollinger Family Farm, located at 7420 E Hansel Rd. Channahon, IL.
After over twenty-three years, October 20 & 21, 2018 will mark the culmination of a signature October event at Dollinger Family Farm – The Civil War Reenactment. This event is open to the public, and features over 600 reenactors depicting battles from the American Civil War. It has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the largest living history events in the state.
The battles are spectacle to behold, and also an opportunity to “go back in time” to 1861 and learn about a pivotal time in our nation’s history. Victories and losses of both the Union and Confederate campaigns are brought to life.
According to Jerry Kowalski, the chairman of the Civil War Committee for Dollinger Family Farm, “Social and political differences that shaped our country came to head during the Civil War, and this is such a fascinating part of history to study and remember. We hope to shed light on these issues, and also demonstrate the tragedy of war.”
As part of the experiential school program that takes place the Friday before the Reenactment, students hear speeches by Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Tubman and meet Civil War generals. They walk through Civil War camps and learn about medicine, cooking, photography, transportation, and blacksmithing, and the daily life of a Civil War soldier.
Dollinger Family Farm thanks the many Civil War Reenactors for their passion and dedication to sharing their knowledge of history over the years with so many visitors and students. Please join us for one final salute on October 20 & 21, 2018.
