What if your gifted teen needs a little more time after high school graduation before heading off to college? We know that giftedness is often accompanied by asynchronous growth in other areas, such as interpersonal and social skills. Extra time to develop and grow before the onslaught of an independent life at college can ease a gifted teen's transition to adulthood. Dr. Michele Kane of Northeastern Illinois University and Brandon Tessers of the Center for Identity Potential present recent research on brain development that suggests a gap year can be highly beneficial. They will discuss how to develop a gap year that accentuate's a teen's strengths, deepens their self-knowledge and prepares them for a healthy college experience and adulthood.
