Learn About Illinois' Accelerated Placement Act and Possibilities for Your Student

Under the new Accelerated Placement Act, all Illinois public school districts must now have equitable policies in place that allow for early entrance to kindergarten and first grade, subject-based acceleration, and full-grade acceleration for eligible students. What does this new law mean for families with high-ability students in Illinois? Hear the latest updates regarding implementation of the legislation and learn how parents can use this law to work with schools to improve the education of their children.

Joshua Dwyer is the Policy Director for Empower Illinois. As Policy Director, he identifies problems with the education system, writes bills to address those problems, and advocates for them to become law. Four bills he has written have become law - a teacher tax credit for out-of-pocket expenses, a tax credit for donations to scholarship granting organizations, a bill that requires school districts to use best-practices when identifying gifted students, and Ithe Illinois Accerlerated Placement Act, the bill that we will be talking about tonight.
