Rockin’ Ragtime with the Music Institute of Chicago

  • April 13, 2019
  • 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Driehaus Museum, Chicago

Ragtime music was developed during the Gilded Age and became widely popular after the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Ragtime music mixes European classical music and marches, with African rhythms and influences. Composers like Scott Joplin, called the “King of Ragtime,” who was also influenced by the music of the American South, could be heard in live performance and on player pianos in many American leisure settings. Celebrate this multicultural musical history as the Music Institute of Chicago presents songs, crafts and activities and an opportunity to play instruments that bring Ragtime music to life!

Recommended for ages 4 - 12.

Adults: $10 Kids 12 & Under: $5, 2 and under: FREE
