MWRD Road Show

WHAT: MWRD Commissioners and staff will offer the public the opportunity to learn more about the MWRD, how to find a job and how to do business

WHERE: Science and Arts Academy, 1825 Miner St., Des Plaines

WHEN: Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 9 a.m. - noon.

SPECIAL NOTE: Bring your electronics for proper disposal and paper for safe shredding as the Cook County Sheriff's Office will be onsite.

To continue celebrating its 130th anniversary, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) will be "taking the show on the road" to give the public an opportunity to learn more about the MWRD and meet commissioners and staff.

Engineers will be on hand to explain local and regional stormwater management projects; the nearby Kirie Water Reclamation Plant manager will be available to explain how the MWRD manages to treat more than a billion gallons of water per day; and a senior engineer will showcase MWRD biosolids and compost to be used as a soil amendment.

Human resources staff will be available to discuss MWRD positions, upcoming examinations and how to apply for jobs. Business owners are also encouraged to attend to learn how to engage with the MWRD on future work opportunities.

There will be activities just for kids too - an environmental chemist will show how water quality samples are examined and an Information Technology Department project will educate and entertain all ages. In addition, participants will have a chance to win a free rain barrel.

The MWRD will also be working with the Cook County Sheriff's Office will collect electronics, including cables (all types), calculators, cell phones, computers, computer hardware, laptops, desktops, fax machines, printers, hand-held devices hard drives, motherboards, UPS batteries, televisions (one per household), CRT monitors, blenders, toasters, toner cartridges, Christmas lights, and car batteries. There will also be a paper collection for documents that contain personal information to be safely shredded, such as bank statements, medical records, old tax returns, pay stubs, bills, receipts, and other personal documents.
