The Unsinkable Molly Brown

  • February 15, 2020
  • 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Glessner House, Chicago

Learn the facts and myths behind the Unsinkable Molly Brown when actress Lynn Rymarz portrays Margaret Brown. Born in 1867 in Hannibal, Missouri, she was married in 1886 to J. J. Brown in Colorado, where he made his fortune in mining a few years later. The Denver socialite and philanthropist survived the sinking of the ill-fated Titanic in April 1912 and gained fame by urging her lifeboat to turn around to pull others from the freezing waters. The story was immortalized in a 1960 Broadway musical and 1964 film.

The event is co-sponsored by the Greater Chicago Chapter of the Victorian Society in America (GCCVSA) and will begin with a reception at 2:30pm, followed by the performance at 3:00pm.

GCCVSA members will also have the opportunity to tour the Glessner House, beginning at 1:15pm.

This is the first in a series of special events during 2020 commemorating the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage by celebrating significant women connected to Glessner House, Prairie Avenue, and across the country.

$25 per person / $20 for members of Glessner House and GCCVSA
