Chicago women made Illinois the first state east of the Mississippi to grant limited voting rights to women in 1913. The women — including Ruth Hanna McCormick — greatly influenced the tactics and achievements of suffragists in other states and helped make Illinois the first state in the nation to ratify the 19th Amendment. This program will tell their story with vintage photographs and quotes from the women themselves.
