Parenting Discussion

Nurturing Playfulness in Isolation

It is important for kids to have playful outlets in their days. In the absence of friends, how do we provide them with the play time they crave?  There are two solutions here. One is to help the kids learn to play on their own, the other is to add more family playfulness.

The New York Times had an article on helping kids learn to play happily on their own.  Teach Your Kids to Play on Their Own

For those parents looking to add more playfulness into their stay-at-home routine:  The Parenting Junkie tackles playfulness  and MIT's Media Lab discusses Cultivating Creativity

Questions for Friday:

  • Is playfulness important to you and your family?
  • Are you kids happy to amuse themselves?
  • What have you tried to increase family fun while stuck at home together?
  • Have you seen this as an opportunity for family bonding?

Join Katherine Peterson and Newenka DuMont, two SENG model parent group facilitators, as they engage you in an informal discussion about parenting gifted children in the time of self-isolation. We will meet online using the Jitsi meeting software, which will allow you to join the meeting on your computer, via an app on your phone, or by calling in on a dedicated phone number.
