Supporting Self-Advocacy for Children With Gifts and Talents

How can parents help children to take charge of their education, especially in times of ever-changing remote and hybrid learning environments? Empowering children with gifts and talents to take ownership and advocate for themselves provides them with essential keys to success in school and beyond. Strategies for helping children to understand their rights and responsibilities as learners, options, and opportunities will be explored. Parents will leave this session with tools and ideas to help their children gain a deeper understanding of themselves and to become effective self-advocates.

Following the presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to attend virtual, informal break-out sessions facilitated by members of the IAGC Education Committee to network, discuss, and explore topics related to this presentation.

Deb Douglas, the featured presenter of the workshop, consults and advocates for gifted students, specializing in workshops that help students take charge of their education. She is a frequent presenter at state and national conferences, and the author of the book, The Power of Self-Advocacy for Gifted Learners: Teaching the Four Essential Steps to Success (Grades 5-12), Free Spirit Publishing, 2017.

IAGC members register for $25, non-members pay $50.   For more details and registration, please see here
