Jessica Lahey, the author of the ground-breaking book “The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed,” was born into a family with a long history of alcoholism and drug abuse, and she dealt with personal struggles around substance abuse for many years.
