Climate Series: Forests

  • May 19, 2021
  • 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • Zoom, National Museum of Natural History

Join us for a virtual screening of the short film Feedback Loops: Forests.

Watch the film at your convenience upon registration, and tune in on May 19, 2021, for a discussion with Kristina Anderson-Teixeira (Ecologist and Leader of Smithsonian’s ForestGEO Ecosystems & Climate Program) and Beverly Law (Professor Emeritus, College of Forestry, Oregon State University) moderated by Bill Moomaw (Professor Emeritus of International Environmental Policy, Fletcher School, Tufts University).

This program is offered as part of the 4-part virtual series Natural History on the Big Screen: Feedback Loops, taking place monthly May-August, 2021. Register to receive the screening and Zoom Webinar links.

About the Film: The world’s forests are responsible for removing a quarter of all human carbon emissions from the atmosphere and are essential for cooling the planet. But that fraction is shrinking as the three major forests of the world—tropical, boreal, and temperate—succumb to the effects of climate feedback loops. The resulting tree dieback threatens to tip forests from net carbon absorbers to net carbon emitters, heating rather than cooling the planet.
