“We Can Do It!” and Other Messages: Learning the Art of Persuasion

  • April 01, 2023
  • 10:00 AM
  • Pritzker Military Museum & Library, Chicago

The Pritzker Military Museum & Library welcomes families to come together to create lasting memories that inspire young learners through fun, dynamic, and diverse programming. We believe in using creative approaches to make learning about military history accessible to guests of all ages.

How can we convince people to see things from our point of view? What’s the best way to get a point across? What points are other people making?

Every day, we see and hear hundreds of messages that want to convince us of one thing or another. They do this by using different persuasive techniques to get their point across. Throughout history, these persuasive techniques have allowed the military to send memorable messages to the public – messages like Rosie the Riveter’s “We can do it!” and Uncle Sam’s “I want you.” Join us at the Pritzker Military Museum & Library on Saturday, April 8th to explore the art of persuasion through the lens of persuasive military ad campaigns. We will explore some persuasive military posters from history, and then create some persuasive posters of our own.
