Astronomy Fundamentals : Finding Good Targets in Twilight

  • September 17, 2024
  • 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Naperville Municipal Center

Naperville Astronomical Association presents:

It’s an outreach nightmare: the Sun set only 25 minutes ago, you can only see three or four stars in the whole sky, and already there are 20 people standing in line, waiting for you to show them something in your telescope. You can tell them to come back after it gets darker, but you know most of them will just leave disappointed – or you can come to this month’s Fundamentals, where long-time member and outreach veteran Rick Gering will show you how to use a pair of binoculars, an app like Sky Safari, your telescope’s optical finder, and a little advance planning to find “wow” targets while the sky is still in twilight, snatching success from the jaws of failure and leaving everyone else on the field wondering how on earth you managed to find that so soon after sunset, while they’re still trying to find stars to do their alignment. The public is welcome to attend, free of charge.
