2e Speaker Series Chat with Eleonoor van Gerven -a  presentation and Q&A on appropriate ecological systems and effective interventions for 2e learners

This week, Bridges Academy and the Bridges 2e Center are pleased to welcome Dr. Eleonoor van Gerven, vice president of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. Register here.

About Dr. van Gerven's presentation:

In education, Van Meersbergen & Jeninga refer to Bronfenbrenner's system as "the ecology of the learner." A smaller-scale approach that still uses the term learner ecology is introduced by van Gerven. Relevant actors in this system include teachers, parents, learners, and peers, while factors involve the curriculum, pedagogical strategies, and the learner's physical environment. The fundamental principle of ecological thinking is the mutual influence of actors and factors on one another.

In this session, we examine the influence of the learner’s ecological system on providing a more appropriate education for twice-exceptional students in a general group. Small and successful interventions can be found by using a solution-focused and positive psychological approach. These types of intervention strategies can be relatively simply implemented in general education classrooms even when a formal identification of giftedness and/or a formal diagnosis of disability has not (yet) taken place. The idea behind the approach is “alone you go faster, but together you can accomplish more.”
