NIU STEAM in Partnership with Midwest Dairy

In a second installment of STEAM-powered curriculum, NIU STEAM and Midwest Dairy collaborate to discuss how to reframe waste into wonder by connecting chemistry, biology and engineering in a tangible, exciting way.

This information-packed hour will explore the real-world phenomenon of converting manure and organic waste into renewable energy through aerobic and anaerobic digestion, making modern day sustainability visible, measurable and meaningful.

In this lesson, students will build mini-digesters, generate natural gas and calculate how much waste could power a school or community.
