Lake County Symphony Orchestra: Triumph and Tragedy

  • February 07, 2026
  • 7:30 PM
  • James Lumber Center, College of Lake County, 19351 W Washington St, Grayslake, IL 60030

Join the Lake County Symphony Orchestra, led by guest conductor Donald Schleicher, for an unforgettable evening of emotional depth, dramatic intensity, and expressive power.

Donald Schleicher—Director of Orchestras at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music and a nationally respected conductor and educator—brings his artistry and interpretive insight to a program that explores the full range of human experience through music.

The concert opens with Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont, a powerful statement of courage, resistance, and moral triumph in the face of oppression. Rising star pianist Hannah Zhang, a Northwestern University student and emerging soloist, then joins the orchestra for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20, a stormy and poetic work filled with tension, lyricism, and emotional depth.

The evening concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, the Pathétique—a profoundly moving and intimate musical journey whose vulnerability and honesty continue to captivate audiences around the world.
