Erik Parsons is an educator with a diverse background of experiences, having lived in 15 cities and 10 states. In 2001, Parsons received his bachelors in theatre with an emphasis on directing and developing new works. He has always had a passion for informative entertainment and, since receiving his degree, often worked as a teaching artist in a variety of capacities for an array of schools and organizations. Throughout his artistic and teaching endeavors, Parsons has encountered many incredibly talented individuals coping with disorders of varying degrees and found himself particularly invested in helping them achieve personal, professional and artistic success. A few years ago, at the urging of a close friend, Parsons began working in behavioral therapy with children on the autism spectrum. It was through this work that he discovered the terminology and conceptual basis of twice exceptionality and came to realize that it was this unique and fascinating population of students who he had long been most enthusiastic to encounter throughout his work. Over the past year, Parsons has been studying with CTD director Paula Olszewski-Kubilius and associate director Susan Corwith, investigating the unique issues faced by twice exceptional students, their parents and teachers. His presentation is the culmination of his practicum work and among the first of many projects to provide information and advocacy to those who need it most.

Parsons' seminar topic: Parsons will present an entertaining and informative primer on twice-exceptional students, those who are gifted and also have a learning disability, to help parents and educators recognize and reach these unique individuals of extraordinary potential.
