STEM Day for Girls (gr. 7-12)

STEM Day is a free event for girls in grades 7 through 12 who are interested in STEM programs (Science - Technology - Engineering - Math). It is designed for school groups, scout groups, youth groups and individual girls.


The overall vision of STEM is to motivate middle school and high school girls interested in STEM careers to become innovative and creative thinkers and to pursue careers in this area by introducing them to college life at CLC through a series of hands-on activities and inspiring presentations.

Fun and hands-on science, technology, engineering and math sessions

Informative career advice from successful scientists and engineers

Presentations on lasers, medical technology, engineering, sustainability and more

Science Exploratorium in partnership with NOVA Making Stuff for even more experiments


Free light lunch


Keynote Speaker: Maryellen L. Giger

Maryellen L. Giger is presently an A.N. Pritzker Professor of Radiology, the Committee on Medical Physics, and the College at the University of Chicago. Dr. Giger is considered one of the pioneers in the development of CAD (computer-aided diagnosis). Her lab focuses on the development of multimodality CAD (computer-aided diagnosis) and quantitative image analysis methods. Her research interests include digital medical imaging, computer-aided diagnosis, quantitative image analysis, and data-mining in breast imaging, chest/CT imaging, cardiac imaging, and bone radiography. Professor Giger has advised over 100 trainees over the past years including medical physics graduate students, post docs, visiting scholars, medical students, undergraduate students, and high school students.
