Creature From The Black Lagoon – Sunday, November 15th at Noon
*Presented with Paul Mayer, Collections Manager of Fossil Invertebrates*

With a prehistoric mystery afoot, Paul Mayer will lead the discussion in unearthing the science behind this creature feature. Paul received his Bachelor of Science at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and his Masters of Science at Oregon State University – Corvallis. He worked for ten years at the Milwaukee Public Museum, two seasons at the Grand Canyon National Park, and has now been at the Field Museum for nearly eight years. During his career he has split his time between researching Devonian and Silurian brachiopod fossils, educating the public about Midwest paleontology, and digitizing collections. As a kid he loved to go fishing and watch monster movies. His favorites wereKing Kong, Godzilla, anything with dinosaurs in it, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Paul says, “I got the idea that I wanted to be a paleontologist at a museum while watching theses movies. I remember in Creature from the Black Lagoon that the fossilized hand they find is from the Devonian Period and as it turns out Devonian fossils are what I study, a strange coincidence.”
