From the Battle of Manila Bay in the Spanish-American War to its final mission to carry the body of the Unknown Soldier from France to the United States in 1921, USS Olympia represents the United States's emergence as a world naval power.

John Brady is joined by James Delgado and Seth Bruggeman to discuss the storied history of USS Olympia. Launched in 1892, USS Olympia is the oldest steel warship afloat in the world.

This program is part of season three of the Citizen Soldier series, which explores topics on military history, affairs, and policy through interviews and panel discussions with scholars, military personnel, and authors, in collaboration with national sponsors.

About the panelists:

JAMES DELGADO is the Director of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Maritime Heritage Program.

SETH BRUGGEMAN is an Associate Professor of History and Director of the Center for Public History at Temple University.

JOHN BRADY has worked in maritime preservation for 35 years. He was appointed President and CEO of the Seaport Museum in 2011.
