How Not to Hate Physics is a year-long introduction to physics class, to be continued during the 14-week Winter-Spring session. Traditionally, physics is taught after biology and chemistry, but physics is easier and more interesting the earlier you start. This class will be conceptual but mathematical applications will be shown (and elaborated for those who are interested). Session 1 topics include: motion in one dimension, two-dimensional motion and vectors, projectile and satellite motion, forces and Newton's laws of motion, work, energy, momentum and collisions, rotational motion, gravity, and fluid mechanics. Session 2 (in the Winter/Spring) will begin with a review of Session 1 topics. Anticipated Session 2 topics include: vibrations and waves, sound, light and reflections, refraction, interference, diffraction, electric forces and fields, electrical energy and current, circuits, and magnetism. No textbook is required, but the instructor can suggest reading material. The instructor will post relevant links (most likely in a Google Doc) relating to the upcoming class subject(s).

Teacher: Addison Henikoff

Minimum/maximum: 5/15

Age range: 9-12

Price: $36 (this includes class and lab fees)

Supplies: Paper, pencil and a calculator.

Addison Henikoff has studied physics with Ruth Kulmala, and recently completed a Physics Honors class through CTD's Gifted Learning Links.
