This is a survey class modeled on the Big History Project, which can be found at bighistoryproject.com. It is taught over the full 24 weeks of co-op. Students may join in the winter-spring session as well, but will be asked to do some preparatory reading and watching so they have an overview of the historical topics covered in the fall.

The class began with the Big Bang and will end in current times, giving students a broad overview of the full arc of history. This class will work off the flipped classroom model, with students watching assigned videos or reading short articles prior to class so they arrive ready for discussion and activities. Classroom emphasis will be on discussion, group interaction and hands-on activities. There will also be writing and research projects that can be adjusted to students' abilities. Some mature historical topics will be discussed, including the Atlantic slave trade, effects of colonization, and various wars.

Teacher: Sarah Alexander

Minimum/maximum number of students: 5/10

Age range: 12+

Price: $31
