The first offensive major battle American forces fought in World War I, The Battle of Cantigny, had a significant impact on the life of Col. Robert R. McCormick. After arriving home from his service, Col. McCormick, renamed his family estate Cantigny after the battle.

To celebrate this historic anniversary, the First Division Museum will be offering moments of reflection with a memorial ceremony and poppy display, as well as family-friendly activities.

Scheduled Events:

Memorial Ceremony (10 AM) – Help us commemorating the centennial of the Battle of Cantigny with a memorial ceremony, wreath laying, and pigeon release.

War Letters (1 PM) – Watched as costumed performers read letters from soldiers spanning from World War I to Operation Desert Storm.

Drop in All Day:

Poppy Display – contemplate the casualties of WWI with an artistic poppy display incorporated into our World War I galleries.

Family Activities – Meet some feathered friends and get hands-on with World War I themed activities fun for the whole family.

Historic Vehicles and World War I Encampment – Get hands-on with some of our favorite vehicles from our collection and meet some World War I reenactors.
