Join the Citizens for Conservation to learn more about the environmental services our native bats perform. What makes bats incredible? They are the masters of the night and possess several unique abilities. Bats are the world's only true flying mammals. They are capable of using echolocation. Bats eat garden and crop pests and lower the risk of West Nile virus by consuming thousands of mosquitoes on a single night.

Native bat species include the little brown bat, the big brown bat, and the northern long-eared bat. However, in Illinois there are twelve native bat species.

Learn more by joining us when Sharon Peterson shares her bat experiences, sharing with us the many benefits of this misunderstood and sometimes feared creature. Sharon and Dan Peterson have been promoting bat education in the Midwest since 1996. Sharon is an elementary school teacher and librarian trained by Bat Conservation International in the conservation of bats. Dan is a bat naturalist.
