Addressing the Underrepresentation of Bilingual Gifted Students in G&T Programs

  • February 21, 2019
  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
  • SENG Online Webinar

Recognizing the significant underrepresentation of Latino bilingual students in gifted and talented (GT) programs, researchers and practitioners have investigated several factors that play a role in this educational concern.

One of the determined factors is the necessity to have a shared definition of giftedness in bilingual students. Many times, when teachers and parents are asked about the nomination process, they may be unclear of the how giftedness manifests in bilingual students. In this webinar, specific characteristics of Latino bilingual gifted students will be presented and discussed.

Dr. Joy Esquierdo will discuss specific characteristics of giftedness in bilingual students that will support them to fulfill their potential and feel more accepted in the educational context. This presentation aims to increase inclusiveness and accessibility to underserved student populations to gifted programs and services.
