A Raising Gifted Children
Study Group

Meet with a group of parents for 8 consecutive weeks beginning Wednesday, September 25,  2019 ending November 13th, 2019 to discuss issues of giftedness in a SENG Model Parent Group. We will meet from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in Hinsdale, though there is an option to attend sessions 2 - 8 through a Google hangout.

Each week we will read one or two chapters of A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children and discuss them as a group in a facilitated discussion format developed by SENG (Supporting the Emotion Needs of the Gifted).  Additional readings from the gifted press will be provided.  We will cover a variety of topics relevant to raising gifted children, such as maintaining motivation and enthusiasm, avoiding underachievement, coping with intensity, perfectionism, stress, idealism, and depression, making and keeping friends, handling siblings, and more.

The cost for participation will be $40 for members and $60 for non-members to cover venue and materials.  Additionally, each participant will need to acquire a copy of the book, which is readily available online, or directly from the publisher, Great Potential Press. (Confidential fee waivers available, please enquire here.)

The guided reading will be facilitated by Newenka DuMont.  Newenka is a certified SENG Model Parent Group master facilitator.  She has been leading guided reading groups in our area since 2003.  Newenka is a board member of both the Illinois Association for Gifted Children and the Chicago Gifted Community Center, where she is the current president. More importantly, Newenka is the mother of two, adult, gifted daughters. Linda Zanieski, Chicago Gifted Community Center founding board member and Treasurer, will co-facilitate. She also is the current organizer of The Chicago Gifted Children Meetup and the mother of a gifted teen.

The group size will be limited to 15 people, on a first come, first registered basis. We will need at least 8 people to form a group.

Email Newenka with questions.
