Chicago Water Tower 150th Celebration
Join the City of Chicago and a multitude of partner organizations for a day-long neighborhood festival celebrating the 150th anniversary of the historic Chicago Water Tower—built in 1869 by architect William W. Boyington and one of the only buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire.
Free programming will include family activities, lectures, tours, theatre performances, public art, and exhibitions—plus food trucks, dining discounts and complimentary admission to nearby cultural institutions. See below for a full schedule of events.
Organizers include the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, Department of Water Management, The Magnificent Mile Association, the Water Tower Arts District and its members, Lookingglass Theatre Company, AIA Chicago (also celebrating its 150th anniversary this year), and many others.

Free events include:
- Lectures - Organized by AIA Chicago and the Department of Water Management
- Tours - Tours of the Chicago Avenue Pumping Station, organized by the Department of Water Management; and Chicago Fire Station 98, organized by the Chicago Fire Department
- Music, Theatre, Art, Circus - Presented by Lookingglass Theatre Company
- Water Tower Arts District - Exhibitions, family activities, and complimentary admission throughout the day at nearby cultural institutions
