In this presentation, Dr. Golebiewski will explore the roots of anxiety and stress and offer strategies to cultivate emotional balance. He will discuss:

  • The impact stress and anxiety can have upon our body, brain, and mind and the importance of achieving balance
  • The neuroscience behind these responses
  • The concept of the window of tolerance and how mindfulness can change brain chemistry
  • Strategies to cultivate emotional balance

Thomas Golebiewski, PhD is a Board Certified and Illinois Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Having worked in schools for over 40 years, he spent 26 years as Department Chair of Social Work at New Trier High School and in private practice since 1985. He has been an adjunct Professor at the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration, and is currently teaching at Northwestern University, School of Education and Social Policy and Loyola University, School of Social Work. He is in private practice and currently consults at numerous schools and organizations, including Wolcott School. Dr. Golebiewski received his BA and MSW from Loyola University in Chicago and PhD in Clinical Social Work from The Institute for Clinical Social Work, Chicago, IL.

Wolcott's First Friday Speaker Series provides a forum for experts and members of the community to meet and informally discuss topics of interest.
The Tyree Institute provides outreach programming on adolescent development, educational practices, and learning differences.
