More Than Meets the Eye!

Illinois Math and Science Academy, 1500 Sullivan Rd. Aurora, IL 60506

Grade 2

The typical human eye can distinguish up to 10 million di erent shades of color and amazingly every single one of those colors is ultimately created by some combination of the 3 primary colors! In this Funshop, students will explore the science behind color perception and light and will learn about the di erence behind additive and subtractive color mixing as they engineer their own rainbow eyeglasses!

Grades 3-4

How does the human eye see color and light? Join us in a hands-on exploration into the mechanics of light and discover how the eye and brain work together to see the world. Applying what they have learned, young scientists will get to build a kaleidoscope with their own unique design.

Grades 5-6

What is in an eye? Students will explore the visual systems of mammals through the dissection of a cow eye! Identifying various cow- eye structures, they will discover how the cow eye compares to a human eye! By testing their sense of sight, participants will begin to appreciate the little things – in our eye (right down to the little light-detecting cells) – which help us to see the world.
