THIS CLASS MEETS VIA ZOOM ON THURSDAYS AT 2:00

Fairy Tales on Trial introduces elementary students to the legal system and invites them to pass judgment on the behaviors of certain characters in well-known fairy tales.  This class requires reading a fairy tale with a more critical lens, i.e., did Goldie Locks trespass and if so, what penalties might she face.  Through role-play, students are given the opportunity to simulate a trial by crafting legal arguments, interviewing witnesses, and serving as a judge or member of a jury.  This class aims to stimulate your child’s creativity and develop critical thinking.  Students will also make connections to standards and values in the real world.

Rhonda Stern holds a doctorate in Curriculum Studies from DePaul University.  She also sits on the board of the Chicago Gifted Community Center and is the founder of Educational Enrichment Consulting.  Stern is passionate about teaching, learning, and preserving our environment. Stern has worked in the field of gifted and talented education since 2000. Originally trained as a lawyer, Stern graduated from Northwestern University’s Law School in 1982, and worked in the legal profession until 1998.
