Parent Conversations:  Twice-Exceptionality (2E)

Many parents are familiar with the complexities of twice-exceptional learners or (2E),  which is slowly beginning to gain more traction in academic settings.  Gifted in math with a learning issue in reading, intellectually gifted with autism or ADHD, or a high level student who struggles to stay organized due to executive functioning issues.  There are many other examples that make accessing education tricky for parents, and create misunderstanding for their child.   Why are 2E learners overlooked?   How do we collaborate with our teachers and schools to support these learners?   When and how do we intervene?   Here's a few articles to fuel our discussion:

The Goldilocks Question:  How to Support your 2E Child and Get it "Just Right", Davidson Institute;  https://www.davidsongifted.org/gifted-blog/the-goldilocks-question-how-to-support-your-2e-child-and-get-it-just-right/

How to Support Your Twice Exceptional Child:  US New & World Report; https://www.usnews.com/education/k12/articles/how-to-support-your-twice-exceptional-child

Twice-Exceptional Kids; Both Gifted & Challenged; Child Mind Institute;  https://childmind.org/article/twice-exceptional-kids-both-gifted-and-challenged/

We aspire to welcome everyone and address gifted topics that are accessible and relevant to busy parents.  Join us to listen, participate, collect resources, share ideas and create community that supports and understands gifted parenting. Topic suggestions welcome and will change each session, and resources will be provided to inform and fuel the conversation.  It's OK if you don't have time to read, just join us for inspiring conversation with other gifted parents and Katherine Peterson, parent,  CGCC Board Member / Facilitator.   Other CGCC Board Members including Carole Jones, CGCC President, and Aileen Kelleher, LCSW, CGCC Board Member and Professional Member, and Esther Tarkieltaub, Professional Member will join as they are able. Please feel free to reach out to Katherine Peterson, CGCC Board Member & Parent Discussion Facilitator with questions, ideas or to share your comments.
