Parent Conversations: Gifted & Distracted
Parenting a child who is gifted, and has attention issues? These 2E or twice-exceptional students are gifted, and may be easily distracted, have trouble organizing their materials, struggle keeping track of time, are sometimes incorrectly labeled "lazy" and even have trouble remembering what and where their homework is. How do we help these bright and distracted learners to feel more confident? What can we do to identify and support processes that help them learn to be attentive? The University of Connecticut article below suggests, "ADHD is not a defect that must be "cured." In fact our experience of many gifted children with ADHD resonates with our colleagues' perceptions that the condition can not only inhibit, but enhance the realization of gifts and talent."
