Communication and Relationships…

two words loaded with emotion.

Family - Friends - Acquaintances - Peers

There are so many pieces to this puzzle.  During this presentation/workshop, we will delve into how communication impacts the gifted child and the gifted family.  What communication skills are you modeling?  What are the communication issues for gifted children?  How do you handle being married to a gifted person?  And, exactly how many friends does your child need?  Who is a true peer for your child?  How is peer pressure affecting your gifted child?

Please join us for a section of the SENG Model Parent Group book talk.  Since 1981, SENG Model Parent Groups have served the parents of gifted children through supportive and collaborative discussions. First, the chapters from A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children that cover communication and relationships will be outlined.  Then, we will participate in a dialogue about how communication and relationships affect our families based on the SENG Model.  Giftedness impacts every aspect of a person’s life – even the way we communicate.  Come and share in a supportive environment…you might just pick up a great strategy from your fellow gifted parents.

Presenter, Sharon Collins is a gifted program coordinator and educator, writer, presenter, educational consultant and advocate. She currently works in an ECC-12 District as the Elementary Enrichment Specialist serving students in the Early Childhood Center through sixth grade.  She is passionate about advocating for the needs of the gifted during every stage of their lives.  Sharon Collins is a SENG Model Parent Group facilitator.  In addition to leading groups, she also presents parts of the SMPG to teachers and gifted parent alliances.  This July, Sharon will present “Overcoming Overexcitabilities:  Healing Energy for the Gifted Mind, Body and Spirit” at the SENG conference in Orlando, FL.  She has also been asked to present about gifted seniors at the next NAGC convention.  Sharon Collins holds an MA in Teaching & Learning, a BS in Journalism and is a certified Reiki Master Teacher and practitioner specializing in the needs of the gifted.
