CGCC: Field Museum - Unraveling DNA (ages 10-14)

Join us for a class that will investigate the fundamental principles of DNA and genetics while learning about the scientific research conducted at The Field Museum. Students will extract DNA in a lab and connect with real scientists in the DNA Discovery Center!   Students can study ahead of time the following key concepts to create a more in-depth learning experience.

 

Key Concepts

Tree of life/phylogeny

Basic knowledge of the parts of a seed

Basic knowledge of the parts of a cell

Wheat germ

DNA extraction

Basic understanding of DNA

Basic understanding of heredity

Single allele traits, i.e. blue eyes, widow’s peak, ability to roll tongue

 

Meet at the East Entrance to enter the museum as a group.

Ages 10-14

Cost: $8 for members, $12 for nonmembers.  No refunds.
