Heal the Past, Embrace the Present, Plan for the Future

This presentation may be of value to anyone looking to more fully reflect on the impact of giftedness on their formative years, and how to integrate it more fully now. It is divided into three sections.  The first section explores how giftedness can have negative social repercussions in elementary and middle school years, and therefore negatively impact, or have mixed effect upon, one’s internal sense of self.  Through exploring these possibilities it normalizes any confusion or social ostracism that may have occurred, and discusses how that can be repaired. 

The second section addresses how the student can maximize their current learning environment to explore and embrace their giftedness. The final section talks about changes the student can expect as they enter the working environment where there may be fewer outright acknowledgements or recognitions for their giftedness,  In both of the last two sections some attention is given to helping the gifted multi-potentialed student make choices for future academic and career planning.
