University Symphony Orchestra Annual Halloween Concert

  • October 26, 2013
  • 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Mandel Hall, The University of Chicago

Each year USO Director Barbara Schubert brings together the University Symphony Orchestra and Hyde Park School of Dance for a haunted but harmonious concert to celebrate Halloween. Enhanced by costumes, storytelling, and special effects – including a distinctive, thematic entrance by the costumed conductor – this family-friendly concert includes great orchestral masterpieces, unusual treasures of the repertoire, and even an occasional pops medley!  This family-friendly event always fills up, so plan on showing up early—and in costume!

The theme of the 2013 USO Halloween concert is "Day of the Dead. "Frightful and frenetic 'Dances of Death' are featured on this year's USO Halloween concert: the Infernal Dance of the Kaschei from Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird; Franz Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1: Dance in the Village Inn and Totentanz, featuring piano soloist Amy Briggs; the ever-popular Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns; and more.

Donations at the door: $8 general, $4 students/children. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
