Special programming this day:

Day of Remembrance

Sunday, February 16, 2:00–4:00 p.m.

Each year, Chicago’s Japanese American community comes together to commemorate the 1942 signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the forced incarceration of some 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry during World War II. This day offers a valuable opportunity for all of us to reflect on the meaning of our constitutional rights and the corrosive effects of racism and wartime hysteria. The program will begin with a reading of the executive order.

Cost: Free with Museum admission. Museum admission is free for Illinois Residents on this day.

The Day of Remembrance is sponsored by the Chicago Japanese American Council, the Chicago Japanese American Historical Society, the Japanese American Citizen League–Chicago Chapter, the Japanese American Service Committee, and the Japanese Mutual Aid Society of Chicago.
