The Fair Maid of the West

by Thomas Heywood
January 17-19, 2014

"Oh that I had the power to make Time lame,
To stay the stars, or make the moon stand still,
That future day might never stay haste thy flight."

Meet Bess Bridges, our fair heroine, who runs an English seaport tavern.  The apple of many a salty sailor’s eye, she remains loyal to her beloved Spencer, a sea captain now on the run and fighting the Spanish in the Azores.  When word of Spencer’s untimely demise reaches Bess, she recruits a ragged crew of local yeomen to set sail and confront the far-away enemy while fending off pirates and winning the respect and admiration of the Moroccan King.  Your departure awaits from your crew of favorite Shakespeare Project actors who will take you on a seagoing adventure of love lost and reclaimed through a fair maid's unwavering perseverance and courage.  A play so popular with Elizabethan audiences, it spawned a sequel.  From Thomas Heywood, author of last season’s “A Woman Killed Kindness”.  Peter Garino, Artistic Director of The Shakespeare Project, will direct.
