Advocating for Your Child in the classroom:   Having  difficulty communicating the needs of your gifted child in an educational climate where the emphasis is on high stakes testing? This presentation will focus on effective parent advocacy.

Online and print resources will be shared that fine-tune the advocacy efforts of caregivers as well as materials that enhance the ability of the learner to self-advocate.
Find out how you and your child can best communicate his/her needs to learn something new each day.

Michele Kane, Ed.D. is Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Gifted Education Program at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. She has served the gifted community as a public school district gifted coordinator; through private programs such as Camp Summit for the Gifted, PG Retreat, and SENG; and in leadership positions within both the Illinois and National Association for Gifted Children.

Inspired by her experience raising six gifted children, a major focus of Michele's work is related to parenting and social and emotional needs of the gifted.
