Social-Emotional Development of Asian-American Gifted Students


Presenter: Echo Wu, PhD

Imagine you see a black hair Asian boy/girl sitting quietly at the corner of the classroom. What is your immediate perception on this student? How much do you think you see the reality? This presentation will focus on the social-emotional development and needs of gifted students who are Asian but are either born or grow up in the US.

Topics will include, but not be limited to:

  •   The identity of Asian-American gifted students: Mystery & reality
  •   Confucian philosophy: The deep root that is naturally a part of them
  •   Social-emotional development: Potential problems and challenges
  •   Support and guidance: What school and family can do to help them
