Summer Children’s Programing

Wednesdays, 10:30 am – 12:00pm
Cost: $5 per adult and free for children
*Children can only participate if fully accompanied by an adult

All Children’s Programing will first meet in the Children’s Classroom on the Second Floor of the Museum.

June 11th – Jr. Archaeologist
Overview of Ancient Greece (ages 6-14)

Students will become archaeologists for the day, navigating through various aspects of Ancient Greek life. They will be recording their observations about objects in our education collection. By studying artifacts, they will learn how the Ancient Greeks lived, how they governed themselves, and what they did for fun. Then, students will create a 3D Trojan horse.

June 18th – Culture shock (ages 10-16)

When Greeks came to the U.S. during the Great Wave of immigration, they faced a challenging and sometimes inhospitable environment. Students will follow the journeys of Greek immigrants and learn how they adapted to create a Greek-American identity, leading a discussion about how cultural traditions are carried on by individuals. Then, they will put themselves in an immigrant’s shoes and create postcards to send home.

June 28th – Jr. Archaeologist (check Musuem web site for correct date)
The life of a Child in Ancient Greece (ages 6-14)

Students will become archaeologists for the day, recording their observations about objects in our education collection. By studying artifacts, they will learn how the Ancient Greek children lived and what they did for fun. Then, students will create pull toys, a common artifact left behind by children.

No Programs July 3rd-5th in observance of Independence Day

July 9th – Democracy in action
Putting Hercules on Trial (ages 10-18)

Students will discover artifacts that represent the first democratic system in Ancient Greece. Children will then be part of a jury to determine if Hercules was justified for killing a Lion.

July 16th – Acropolis exhibit (ages 3-12)

Children will become tourists for the day, visiting our Acropolis exhibit. Children will learn about the Acropolis and other temples in Ancient Greece. The activity will be followed by a model Acropolis craft.

July 23rd – Democracy in Action
Putting Poseidon on Trial (ages 10-18)

Students will discover artifacts that represent the first democratic system in Ancient Greece. Then, children will  use the democratic principles to decide if Poseidon was justified in his punishment that he gave to Odysseus.

July 30th – Acropolis (ages 3-12)

Children will become tourists for the day, visiting our Acropolis exhibit. Children will learn about the Acropolis and other temples in Ancient Greece. The activity will be followed by a model Acropolis craft.
